Best Divi Photography Child Themes (Divi 5 Ready, 2026 Tested)

I read a lot of "best Divi photography theme" lists, and most share one flaw: nobody checks them.

They hand you the same themes every year, and never click the links to see if those themes still sell. I did, this week. Three of them are already gone.

One is discontinued. One's pages all 404. One's shop now sends you to a "sorry, you are lost" page. And the "free theme" every list names is not even a child theme.

I have built photography sites on Divi for years, so I know what these themes are meant to do: put big images first, add galleries and a booking flow, and save you days of building from scratch. That part Divi does very well.

What the lists miss is everything after the pretty screenshot. The price that quietly doubled. The theme that shut down. And the one question that decides it in 2026: does it still work on Divi 5?

So this is the checked version. For every theme below I opened the live vendor page and noted the real price, whether it still sells, and its Divi 5 status.

The Divi 5 question every other list ignores

Divi 5 launched in 2026 as a complete rewrite of Divi, faster, leaner, a new design system. For a page builder that is exciting. For a Divi 4-era child theme, it raises a real question: will it still work?

Here is the verified answer. Elegant Themes says custom CSS, child themes and custom code should continue to work on Divi 5, and its new Readiness System flags any module that is running in legacy mode.

So the practical rule is simple: most of these child themes carry over, but test on a staging site before you switch a live site to Divi 5. Only one theme here, Divi Life's, currently states explicit "100% Divi 5" support, which is why it leads the list.

At $19 for a year (or $99 lifetime, both unlimited sites), it is one of the cheapest ways into a proper portfolio design. The lightweight build is a real plus for a photo-heavy site, where image weight is usually the speed problem.

With 20+ pages and category gallery templates, it is one of the more complete themes here, and a solid 357 sales on the marketplace back it up.

The catch: the price climbed to $65 (from the old $19 some lists still quote), so check it is worth it over the cheaper picks if you do not need the booking page.

It brings two homepages, three portfolio layouts, an Instagram section and custom Theme Builder templates. For a wedding or editorial photographer targeting a premium market, the styling does real work.

The catch: at $165 it is the priciest here, and it is a Divi 4-era design, so plan to test it on Divi 5. Premium look, premium price.

Free options (and the "free theme" that isn't a theme)

If you would rather not pay for a child theme on top of the Divi licence ($89/year or $249 one-time), there are free routes, but be clear on what each one actually is.

• Photoshary is the "free Divi photography theme" every list names. It is genuinely free (pay-what-you-want), but it is a Divi layout, not a child theme, and it is built to sell or showcase photos, not as a general portfolio. Useful, just not what the label says. See it on the Divi Marketplace.
• Divi Plus Photography is a genuinely free Divi child theme, though it needs the free Divi Plus plugin active as well. Five photographer pages built from Divi Plus modules. diviplus.io.
• Divi Pixel Photography is a free layout pack (imported into the Divi Library), not a child theme, and it needs the Divi Pixel plugin. A polished dark-and-gold design if you already use Divi Pixel. divi-pixel.com.

The honest takeaway: free options exist, but each one attaches to a plugin or is a layout rather than a full theme.

For a no-fuss complete site, a cheap premium theme like Photelo ($19) is often the better value.

Child theme or layout pack? (the Divi 5-friendly route)

This trips people up, so here it is plainly.

A child theme is a complete package, styling, templates and functions, that you install and activate. It gives you a finished site to edit.

A layout pack is a set of page designs you import into the Divi Library and drop onto pages. It gives you building blocks, not a whole theme.

For a photography site on Divi 5, layout packs are often the safer, more future-proof route: they are just Divi content, so there is less to break in a big Divi update than a child theme that hooks into the parent.

Less to hook into the parent means less to break when the parent gets rewritten.

If you are comfortable assembling pages, Divi's built-in modules plus a free layout pack can build a filterable portfolio with no child theme at all.

After checking all of these, my process is short.

• Moving to Divi 5 soon? Start with Divi Life (the one theme that states Divi 5 support), or lean toward a layout pack over a child theme for less to break.
• Want the best value? Divi Photography Portfolio ($19/yr) or Photelo ($19 one-time). Both are light and cheap.
• Wedding or portrait brand? Kindred if budget allows, Carolina ($29) if not.
• Studio, booking or luxury? Photography Portfolio for bookings, Parker for editorial, Lora for high-end.

And whatever you choose, remember a photography site lives or dies on image performance, not the theme.

A pretty theme over unoptimised photos is still a slow site.

Final take

If I had to pick one: the Divi Life Divi Photography Child Theme, because in a Divi 5 world, the theme that actually commits to Divi 5 support is the safe bet. For value, Divi Photography Portfolio or Photelo; for weddings, Kindred.

But the bigger lesson is the one the recycled lists miss: check before you buy. Three of the "best Divi photography themes" everyone still recommends are gone or moved. Everything above was live when I checked, and now you know which is which.
