TL;DR

The Semrush free trial gives you 7 days of full access, and it does require a card that bills automatically when the week ends. The plans changed in 2026: SEO, Starter, Pro+ and Advanced replaced Pro, Guru and Business, starting at $117.33 a month billed annually. Go in with a plan, export everything, and decide by day six.

A week of Semrush is enough to learn whether it fits how you work, but only if you go in knowing what you are doing.

Most pages about this trial stop at "click here to start". The useful part is the rest: it takes a card, it bills the moment the week ends, the plan names everyone quotes are out of date, and the cheapest plan leaves out the feature a lot of people are now signing up for.

Here is the whole picture, checked on Semrush's own pages.

Tip

The short version

Length: 7 days of full access. Card: required, and it bills automatically when the week ends. After the trial: from $117.33 a month billed annually. Worth knowing: Adobe now owns Semrush, the Pro, Guru and Business plans are gone, and the entry plan excludes AI search tracking.

Already decided? That link starts the seven days. If you would rather know what you are walking into first, the rest of this page covers the card, the real cost afterwards, and how to get something lasting out of the week.

How long is the Semrush free trial?

Seven days, and Semrush is unambiguous about it.

The Semrush free trial page with a large headline reading Get Your Free 7-Day Semrush Trial, The only marketing tool you'll ever need, above a Start Free Trial button, with the Semrush logo showing An Adobe Company
Semrush's own trial page states seven days in the headline. Note the line under the wordmark too.

It appears three separate times on that page:

  • The page title: "Semrush Free Trial | Try Semrush Free for 7 Days"
  • The headline: "Get Your Free 7-Day Semrush Trial"
  • The body: "Get free 7-day access to our marketing toolkits. Cancel anytime."

During those seven days you get full access to the plan you selected. It is not a feature-limited demo, which is what makes a week genuinely useful if you plan it.

Do you need a credit card?

Yes, and this is the part that catches people out.

Semrush takes card details at signup, and the subscription starts automatically when the seven days end. It is a trial in the "cancel before it bills" sense, not the "try it with nothing at risk" sense.

Their own FAQ asks "Can You Cancel Your Semrush Subscription After the Free Trial?", which tells you how often people arrive at that question the hard way.

One practical habit worth adopting with any short trial: set a reminder for day six, not day seven. If you signed up in the evening, day seven can end earlier than you expect once a timezone gets involved.

What does Semrush cost after the trial?

This is where most articles are out of date, and it matters because it decides which plan you should trial.

Semrush pricing page showing four plans, SEO at $117.33 per month, Starter at $165.17, Pro Plus at $248.17 and Advanced at $455.67, all billed annually, with SEO plus AI Search badges on the last three
The current plan structure: SEO, Starter, Pro+ and Advanced. AI search tracking is excluded from the entry plan, and Advanced has no free trial.

Pro, Guru and Business no longer exist. The current plans are:

PlanBilled annuallyBilled monthlyAI search tracking
SEO$117.33/mo$139Not included
Starter$165.17/mo$19950 prompts daily
Pro+$248.17/mo$299100 prompts daily
Advanced$455.67/mo$549200 prompts daily

Annual billing saves up to 17%, shown on the toggle.

Two details worth knowing before you choose a plan to trial, because you are trialling one specific plan rather than the whole platform:

  1. The entry SEO plan excludes AI search tracking. It carries a red cross against "Track performance in AI search". If AI visibility is the reason you are signing up, that plan will not show it to you.
  2. Advanced has no free trial. Its button reads Subscribe, while the other three read Try for free.

The SEO plan does still include what most people came for: 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, Position Tracking and Site Audit.

What changed now that Adobe owns Semrush?

Look at the logo in that first screenshot: Semrush, An Adobe Company.

Adobe completed the acquisition on 28 April 2026, in a deal valuing Semrush at around $2 billion. It cleared the Hart-Scott-Rodino waiting period in January and German competition approval in March.

For anyone starting a trial this week, nothing practical has changed. Same tools, same signup.

What it signals is direction. Adobe bought Semrush for visibility across AI answers as well as Google, and the plan structure rebuilt entirely around "SEO + AI Search" is the first visible result. Expect that side to keep getting the investment.

How to get real value from seven days

A week is short. Sign up without a plan and you will spend three days clicking around and learn nothing.

  1. Day 1: set up Position Tracking properly. Add your real commercial keywords and two competitors. This is the thing you cannot replicate free.
  2. Day 2: run a Site Audit and export it. The report is yours to keep and work through long after access ends.
  3. Day 3: run the Keyword Gap tool against those competitors. This is the single most useful export in the platform.
  4. Days 4–5: export everything. Keyword lists, backlink gaps, audit issues. Get the data out while you have it.
  5. Day 6: decide, and cancel if the answer is no.

Export-first is the honest way to use any short trial. You are buying a week of data access, so take the data.

Is it worth continuing after the trial?

If you do SEO for a living or for clients, yes. Semrush is the most complete platform in the category and a week is enough to prove whether it fits your workflow.

For a single small site, probably not. $139 a month is a serious bill against one blog, and Google Search Console already reports your own rankings free. Start there and move up when you genuinely need competitor data.

If rank tracking is the specific job, our comparison of the best rank tracking tools covers cheaper options that do that one thing well, and white label SEO tools covers the client-reporting side.

Final take

Seven days, full access, card required, bills the day the week ends.

Pick the plan that matches why you are signing up, because the entry SEO plan leaves out AI search tracking. Then work the five-day plan above, export everything, and make the call on day six rather than day seven.

Common questions

How long is the Semrush free trial?

Seven days. Semrush states it in the page title, the headline and the body copy of its own trial page: "Get free 7-day access to our marketing toolkits. Cancel anytime." You get full access to the plan you pick for that week.

Do you need a credit card for the Semrush free trial?

Yes. Semrush asks for card details at signup and the subscription begins automatically when the seven days end. You can cancel anytime from your account, so set a reminder for day six if you do not intend to continue.

How much does Semrush cost after the free trial?

Plans run $117.33, $165.17, $248.17 and $455.67 a month billed annually, or $139, $199, $299 and $549 billed monthly. The old Pro, Guru and Business names have been replaced by SEO, Starter, Pro+ and Advanced.

Does the Semrush trial include AI search tracking?

It depends which plan you trial. The entry SEO plan explicitly excludes tracking performance in AI search. Starter and above include it, with 50, 100 or 200 prompts tracked daily. The top Advanced plan has no free trial at all.

Can you cancel the Semrush trial without being charged?

Yes, if you cancel before the seven days are up. Cancel inside your account under subscription settings. Leave it past day seven and the first period bills at the plan rate you chose, which starts at $139 on monthly billing.

What changed now that Adobe owns Semrush?

Adobe completed the acquisition on 28 April 2026 in a roughly $2 billion deal. Nothing has changed day to day for trial users, but plans have been restructured around SEO and AI search, and deeper Adobe integration is the stated direction.

What should you actually do during the seven days?

Set up Position Tracking on day one with your real keywords and two competitors, run a Site Audit and a Keyword Gap report, then export everything by day five. The exports stay useful long after access ends.
